  • A change of plans

    A big hello everyone! 👋

After a VERY busy few months of fundraising efforts and sponsor seeking we’ve had a bit of a lull.

You may be aware that on Feb 22nd a cartel leader, El Mencho, was killed whilst being arrested.

This led to riots, violence, highway blockades, burned vehicles, airport disruptions and unrest in Jalisco and its capital city (Guadalajara) – exactly where we were headed. 🔥

Consequently, we have made the very hard decision not to head to Mexico at this time, as it’s certainly not the safest place to be taking a children’s team.

While this is disappointing, unfortunately, despite our best fundraising efforts, we also haven’t been able to reach our fundraising targets in time. We gave it a red hot go but we were a long way off in the end. 💰

We have reached out to FIRST Australia to see if there may be another option for our team to compete in the Internationals, perhaps here in Australia. At this stage we are yet to hear but we will post another update once we know more.

    Stay tuned!

  • Congratulations from Central Coast Council

As shared by the Central Coast Council Facebook page on the 9th January:

    ✨ Congratulations Brick Buddies! ✨

Huge congratulations to Poppy, Hugo and Phoebe, who recently travelled to Melbourne to compete at the First LEGO League – Nationals South with their team, The Brick Buddies.

With support from Central Coast Council’s Individual Development Fund, the team achieved an outstanding result – placing in the top four out of 49 teams from across Tasmania, Victoria and South Australia. They recorded a personal best 330-point robot game score, placed second for Core Values, and qualified for an international competition in Mexico in 2026.

An incredible achievement in their first year competing, and a fantastic example of young people building skills in STEM, teamwork and problem-solving.
